2020 Smooth bone marrow transplant at TVGH during COVID-19

In May 2020, Taipei Veterans General Hospital (TVGH, 臺北榮民總醫院) received an overseas medical request for a 38-year-old American woman with acute myeloid leukemia who needed urgent bone marrow transplantation. She had already had chemotherapy in February in Beijing, where all bone marrow transplants were suspended due to the outbreak of COVID-19 pandemic. On the recommendation of Massachusetts General Hospital (MGH) in Boston, as well as with the support of Ministry of Foreign Affairs and American Institute in Taiwan, she was finally approved by Ministry of Health and Welfare to undergo bone marrow transplantation at TVGH in June and recovered well after the operation.
