Construction of Taiwan's first heavy ion therapy center completed

The handover ceremony of the completed construction of Heavy Ion Therapy Center was held today at Taipei Veterans General Hospital (TVGH). Chairman of the Ruentex Financial Group Samuel Yin (尹衍樑), as donor of the construction, presented a laser cut building model to TVGH Superintendent Chang Deh-ming (張德明). They both unveiled the cornerstone for the new center, which is expected to admit patients by the end of 2021.

Since 2008, TVGH has set to create a heavy ion therapy center to provide cancer patients with the most advanced, effective treatment. Thanks to donations from Ruentex Group and some other corporations, construction of the center started in March 2019 and was completed in June 2020.

Superintendent Chang said that from preparation to completion of the center, dozens of biweekly meetings had been held at TVGH. It was a long and arduous process, requiring relentless effort of the staff members, including previous superintendents and vice superintendents. He was deeply moved and would like to express his gratitude here and now. He hoped that this heavy ion therapy center, a combination of the most advanced equipment and multi-specialty medical teams, would benefit more and more cancer patients, thus becoming the top choice for cancer treatment in the world.
