Former President Lee Teng-hui passed away at TVGH

Former President Lee Teng-hui (李登輝)  died of septic shock and multiple organ dysfunction at 7:24 p.m. today at Taipei Veterans General Hospital (TVGH) at the age of 98.

On the evening of February 8, 2020, Lee was hospitalized at TVGH after choking while having a meal at home and having difficulty breathing. He was diagnosed with aspiration pneumonia and heart failure, and was under the utmost care of the TVGH’s medical team.

On February 17, 2020, Lee suffered cardiogenic shock while moving around in a wheelchair in the ward area. Doctors soon performed CPR and put him on a respirator. Lee was retained in the hospital under observation due to lung infection concerns, where the TVGH medical team was working to stabilize his condition.
