2018 The world's best bronchoalveolar lavage skills by TVGH

Doctor Lai Chien-chi (賴建志) of the Division of Allergy, Immunology and Rheumatology, Internal Medicine Department carried out bronchoalveolar lavage (BAL) for a 43-year-old male patient with systemic lupus erythematosus and pulmonary hemorrhage. Biopsy results show that the patient was infected with cytomegalovirus. The medical team offered precise treatment and in 30 days the patient recovered, who would otherwise face a 33% death rate. With BAL and follow-up treatment, the survival rate reached 71%. Doctor Lai and his team prove that they are among the best in the world.
