1981 Taiwan's first successful hepatitis B vaccination at TVGH

Former superintendent Luo Kuang-rui (羅光瑞) and doctor Li Shou-tung (李壽東) were the first to promote hepatitis B vaccination in Taiwan. This led to the implementation of an important public health policy in 1984 – all newborns must receive hepatitis B vaccination. In 10 years' time, hepatitis B was removed from the country's list of major infectious diseases.
